Online and In Class Apprenticeships
Our AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians will provide you with practical, internationally recognised finance and accountancy skills, and will allow you to understand the needs of your organisation, customers and the sector within which it operates. You will gain a recognised qualification and develop your professional skills.
The Need for Flexibility
This flexible course is delivered in partnership with and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom, referred to as Online and On Campus.
Our Online and On Campus Apprenticeships have been designed with both learners and employers in mind – requiring less time in a classroom than traditional delivery models and minimising disruption in the workplace. This flexible approach means that Apprentices can choose how, when and where they want to study.
Please note: The course starts on 8th September 2026. Additional start dates may be available. Classroom attendance is weekly, every Tuesday.
The course duration is 12 months / 3-4 terms part-time study
Online and On Campus – the best of both worlds
We have partnered with to deliver this course through our flexible Online and In Class model.
Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further.
Learners should expect to spend around 7-9 hours studying independently online each week.
In Class, you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Time out of the workplace is reduced thanks to the online learning materials.
The AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting covers high-level accounting and finance topics.
This qualification is aimed at financial team leaders and managers looking to develop their skills in financial accounting and management accounting, either within a Corporate financial team, Accountancy Practice, or Public Sector organisation.
Applicants should have a sound knowledge of accounting principles to undertake the AAT Level 4 programme. Previous achievement of the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting is preferred.
In this qualification you will cover higher accounting tasks including drafting financial statements, managing budgets, personal and business tax calculations, audit, and business skills.
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians. This internationally recognised AAT qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.
When you agree to undertake an Apprenticeship, you may be required to complete Essential Skills qualifications, depending on your previous qualifications, the Apprenticeship level you are completing and your own particular needs.
Units of study
The Level 4 course covers a range of key areas, including:
- Financial accounting
- Management accounting
- Audit and internal controls
- Principles of taxation
- Advanced business awareness
This flexible course is delivered in partnership with and combines on-line learning with weekly classroom lessons. Lessons can be attended in person at our Cardiff Office or via Microsoft Teams.
Units are delivered one at a time and then assessed using computer-based assessments set by AAT. These are conducted at our Cardiff Office and all dates will be provided at the start of the qualification.
The timings of the course are 9.30am to 1pm
Learners are supported and encouraged throughout their qualification to reach their full potential in their chosen industry. The accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification will enable you to seek employment with confidence, potentially run your own accounting practice, and/or to progress to study chartered/certified accountancy qualifications.

The Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians can lead to the achievement of professional AAT (MAAT) status. The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including:

To start an Apprenticeship in Wales, you need to be:
- aged 16 or over (there is no upper age limit)
- living in Wales
- not in full-time education
- not accessing any other funding from the Welsh Government

If you’re looking to undertake an Apprenticeship qualification as a way of upskilling within your current role, you will also need to be:
- employed for a minimum of 16 hours
- supported by your employer to undertake the qualification
- committed to undertaking an average of 8-10 hours of study a week plus classwork
- working in a role that is relevant to the qualification
- employed for at least 51% of your contracted hours in Wales
